Usanu Theatre Company
June/July 2006

Mark C. Hewitt developed a script for Usanu Theatre Company's one-woman performance, Embrace. Devised and directed by Tamara Allen-Cousins and performed by Norwegian actress, Karen Ødemark, the project took Italian writer Franca Rame’s provocative monologues, 'Alice in Wonderless Land' 'and 'Rape' as the starting point for a contemporary revisiting of these themes. Text was created through an openly collaborative devising process with director and performer.

Embrace was first performed at the Pauper’s Pit, Buxton, as part of a short run at the Buxton Festival Fringe with a further performance at (what was then) the Third Floor Arts Centre, Portsmouth, (now the Menuhin Room), during July 2006.
