Blank Productions
Blank Productions is an artist-led interdisciplinary theatre company founded by writer/director Mark C. Hewitt. The company is all about explorative works with artistic and international collaboration at their core. Since 2013, the focus has been on ensemble production activity related to Mark C. Hewitt's theatre writing, in particular the plays Civilization and its Discontents and Geneva Convention, both with music by Norwegian percussionist/composer Thomas Strønen and both developed with an International cast of performers. Songs of the Chambermaids - a section from the play Civilization and its Discontents - was separately developed as a stand-alone piece through an artist residency in Braga, Portugal, and a video version of this sequence was joint-winner in the Best Experimental Film category at its premiere screening as part of Brighton Rocks International Film Festival in June 2023.
Earlier projects include a town centre photography/text installation in Reading during the National Year of Reading; Gridshell Symphonies, a musical response by composer Peter Copley to an architectural structure at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum; and Scrublands, a site-specific live literature production performed in the subterranean Old Police Cells Museum with live music for string sextet as part of Brighton Fringe Festival 2012.
Blank Productions was incorporated in 2005 as a company limited by guarantee. Company no. 05386804.
